Hi again. I have done absolutely nothing with my V40 for the last 3 months as I have been running backwards and forwards to the UK with my wife who has been seriously ill with her gall bladder (doesn't sound life threatening I know but there were many complications over the last 3 months leading to a very intense 3 1/2 hour open surgery) so the V40 has taken a bit of a back seat in my "things to do" list.

She is now hopefully on the road to recovery although she does require another procedure next week that lead to a 2 1/2 week visit to Aintree hospitals critical care ward the last time she had it done but hopefully not this time!

I now intend to get cracking on this damn ovloV!!!!!! I seem to have got as far as the plastic vents from the heater blower and cannot remember what I did last time to remove them. If anyone has a guide to removing the ECU, that would be very helpful indeed!!

I look at this car all day nearly every day and I am itching to get it on the road and drive it. I really need to get this done now but as you can imagine, with many trips to the UK over the last few months comes many unpaid bills that I am slowly catching up with so having the money for the parts is a major factor of "why nothing has been done".

TIME TO GET SERIOUS AND GET THE JOB DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

May be a stupid comment but would it not be nearly as cheap to just get a key from volvo program it in and a second hand key fob as they can be reprogrammed by volvo they just need a immobiliser code from volvo and done no messing

The problem is that now nobody here even has access to Volvo programming software so I still have to get the car off the island. That's the best part of £250 return if the car was driving. I don't even want to know how much if it were trailered!!!!

this is definitely the cheapest and [cough] easiest way of doing this job!

Nah, the cheapest and easiest way would be to take out standalone key insurance for about £30, then "lose" your key in a couple of weeks time - it would just be immoral and illegal...

I never realised that normal mainland insurers didn't include IOM within their operating area.

We can get insured by UK companies but it is not until you try to claim for this that "isn't available in your area" or that "that isn't covered on the isle of man" that you find any of this out!
