I keep meaning to measure the thread on my beastie, fairly sure it's M14 in which case i'll start using Dowty Seals on the sump plug - got a big bag of them as they're used on both the engine and gearbox sump plugs on my other beast.

Meanwhile for all you B230 (and B200 no doubt) owners, the 3/4 UNF Dowty Seal should work nicely, pack of 2 for £1.99 posted here :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AN-8-8AN-...k/174012862150

You'll have to select 3/4" UNF from the drop down which also shows as 18mm, just an extra choice.

On all of the red-blocks I've owned the original sump-plug was a 25mm one; I bought an aftermarket one from a Volvo specialist (it might have been PFV but I can't say for sure) to make servicing easier and that was 26mm.

I did try a 1" socket but it wouldn't grip the original sump-plug and wouldn't go on to the aftermarket one.

Perhaps I've had 6 200-900 cars with the wrong sump-plug over the last 30-odd years...

You certainty have :-) a lot of dodgy things must go on with older cars which have been away from professional volvo servicing for the last 20 years :-)
