What do you mean by 'flush'?

I plan to drain the fluid and refill. I realise I will need to do this a few times to properly replace all fluid.
I'm keen to understand what fluid to use. It's a t5 automatic. Simon |

Do you know what kind of gearbox your car has? If you are unsure, buy the AutoDNA report, it will contain the gearbox ID. My car has the Aisin TF-80SC transmission, so anything I write below is only applicable for that.
The best fluid for it is Aisin Premium ATF6 (note. not the ATF6+) or just buy directly from Volvo (much more expensive though) Last time I did this procedure I bought 6 liters of that oil, which is enough for what you have planned. Of course you can buy more if you wish. Before you get started, locate the fill and drain plugs and buy the correct torx heads for them. If you try to use smaller one, it will strip the bolt. For the required O rings, you can buy those from Volvo directly. This video details the procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAb9p8Wph-M I also attached the information Vida has to offer for this. |

I think you pressed "6" twice. If I remove it, Vida reads your VIN as 2006 C70 model with AW55-50/51SN transmission. Aisin Premium ATF6 is good for this one too.

Rather than the drain, fill repeat method have a search for 'gibbons' on here .....
Using this method requires one of the cooler lines to be removed, you then turn the engine on to pump out 2l of fluid at a time topping up via the dipstick tube in between. The advantage of this is that all the fluid is changed and you need less than repeated drain and fills. Mannol also do a 3309 spec fluid that is relatively cheap. |

Please excuse my ignorance regarding this.
I would like to renew the ATF in my 2008 C70 as it seems a good idea but don't have the capability to do it myself so I'll have to stick with the Volvo line that it doesn't need changing unless it's been given a hard life, which mine hasn't as far as I know. Nevertheless, I'm intrigued as why there isn't a procedure, (or perhaps there is), whereby you could simply suck all the fluid out of the filler hole then replace it with the same amount you took out so it's done in one operation or why there isn't simply a drain hole in the box to let gravity do the work? |
