I have one of these for sale. Used twice and works great with the Sensus system.

Default Carplay xc90 2017

I’ve been looking at carplay as a way round linking my phone via the Bluetooth for my music, just having all my apps up would be easier and google maps is better than the in car mapping. I’ve been onlline and it seems my car can have carplay, I went through the motions from apples instructions hooked it up to the Wi-Fi but nothing happened. I’ve messaged Volvo to ask how I get the car play app and I need to pay them £350 !!!! for it. I’ve read it’s been rolled out but the guy said only to those with a google assisted infotainment system - are there anyways round this for a non tech person ?

Put simply, the answer to your question is no.
On the cars with the Sensus Infotainment system (like yours), to get Android Auto or Apple Carplay you can only get it activated if the Volvo Dealership does it for you. However, call around a few different dealerships to get a quote as the price they charge for this installation can vary quite a bit.
Another thing to bare in mind is that on the Sensus systems, Carplay and Android Auto can only be displayed the bottom half of the centre display screen and cant be linked to show Waze or google mapping on the Drivers display, both issues are quite annoying in my opinion. So annoying that I never used Android Auto on my old car.
The Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) cars can do Over the Air updates to the system (unlike Sensus which is only mapping and App updates). These cars already have full Google mapping as standard for the navigation system and its these that have had the Carplay update included in the latest Over the Air update.

The current price list shows £300 inc. fitting and VAT, so may be worth haggling or shop around. Pity you missed the boat as a few months ago there was a offer for installation for £180. Might be worth hanging fire as these offers seem to come around in cycles.

Ok, it doesn’t have anything to do with Wi-Fi. If you look in your centre armrest there are 2 USB ports, one with a white outline. Plug your phone into that and if CarPlay you’ll get a message on the screen. If not then it’s the £300 option

Bit new to the forum but looks like there is lots of useful stuff. Please could someone answer me a simple question….. I have a mid-2021 V60 Recharge with the Sensus infotainment system. I’m assuming that I can’t get Apple CarPlay without shelling out £300 to Volvo? Is that correct? I also can’t see how to upgrade the software to 2.2 - in my upgrades / software centre there is nothing showing. Not sure why these incredibly simple things that we do every day on smartphones and tablets are made so difficult by Volvo!

Hello and welcome. The update you are referring to is for Android Automotive OS only and not Sensus.

The only way for you to get ACP is via the dealer.

Hi! New to the forum and to Volvo, so please go easy.

Only picked up the car yesterday but my main issue is the half screen CarPlay, from reading around it appears I have an older car system (70plate V60).

Does this mean there is zero chance of full screen CarPlay, or even moving it to the top of the screen so I don't have to look down every time I look at the map.

Cheers!

With the older (Sensus) system CarPlay's location is fixed and cannot be moved.
