It seems to have inferior fuel economy figures to the T3

I’d be really interested to learn how the XC40 copes with less power, especially with an automatic gearbox - VAG suvs like the Ateca and Karoq get a 1.0 tsi which I assume will have a similar power-to-weight ratio as this T2. Weighing up whether this is a real possibility ahead of ordering next month. Anyone had experience with the T3 geartronic? I’ll start a new thread on that topic at some point soon...

Seems like they deleted the T2 Auto in the latest brochure for some reason, so it will only be available as a manual initially.

Well after test driving a T3 geartronic I can absolutely see why they got rid - totally didn't suite the engine, too much lag from the gearbox AND turbo made it really difficult to predict consistently. I'm sure a manual would suite the T3 (and T2) well as there was plenty of torque for pulling away. If anyone else is considering a T3 auto I would certainly suggest trying before you buy!

It's a shame diesels have taken a knock on resale as I'm sure the D3 would have been fine assuming it has similar response to my current VAG 2.0 150 tdi
