Default Top mounts

I have really bad knocking ....
These top mounts don't look right to me. Please confirm if they are totally shot.
I have searched other groups and some say the seats are incorrect.

how much distance do you have to the nut, I'll check mine later if no-one else beats me to it but from memory I would say at least 10-12mm or so

if you have the bonnet open and bounce the slam panel up and down do you see movement at the top mounts?

if you're going to replace the top mounts it would be silly not to replace the spring seats at the same time just in terms of logistics

the spring seat is a rubber(/metal?) composite which can break down, and the top mount has a bearing race in it which can wear out and potentially cause a knocking noise I suppose

the correct order of assembly is viewable in VIDA let us know if you need to see a screen shot I'll add one later

all sorts of things can knock, have a read though this https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=327592

The spring seat in 2 looks broken to me, it is lifted too far up and you can see the seat is split inside, part 6 in the diagram Stuart posted. 1 could still be OK, it's hard to see from the photo.

Think i saw this question on fb, id say the one looks fine to me, the other not so much, the start/cross nut i just tighten up, i didn't measure a distance? am i wrong? Change the top mount rubber if the splines look worn i think this is my current issue

I think it's just one of those optical illusion things the brain inverts it for some reason

when fitting it you'd be hard pressed to get it the wrong way around

Thank you all for your responses.
I have new spring seats and will fit them weekend. Bought them as I want to take the springs out to check they were correctly assembled so while they are out i will put the new seats in.
Is the purpose of item (2) supposed to sit on (5)? say if the wheel drops in a pothole does stop the damper from dropping through?
