Towing Elddis with V70 D5
Hi all, this is my first post and looking for advice.
I own an Elddis Crusader caravan weighing in at 1640kg. Currently I have a Mondeo 2.0 which I've been told the kerb weight is 103% and not safe. I'm looking at getting a Volvo V70 2.4 D5 SE Lux diesel auto. Will this be a good tow car for the Elddis? My other option is the AWD version or an XC70 AWD. Does anyone else tow a heavy van with the V70? Thanks in advance for your advice. |

If the Mondeo is 103% then it is definitely illegal and will probably invalidate your insurance.
The XC70 has a kerb weight of 1800 kg or more depending on the spec. At 1800kg it is a 91% match to your caravan, more than the recommended 85% but should be Ok. Only true way to get the actual kerb weight is to weigh the car.
