Hi All

For those that were intrigued by the GLT saloon advertised at the beginning of the week and the various postings I thought that an update might be of some interest.

I picked BAY up this afternoon. Its about 95 miles from my place to Leicester. The train journey took nearly 4 hours and cost £50 - the drive back took 80 minutes and cost about £15 in fuel. No wonder people wont give up their cars!

Anyway, she drove very well and and cruised at 80 no problem, very smooth. When I got back I had a look underneath as I happened to be groveling around taking photos of TGN's exhaust system to send to Mike Brace. I noticed that no CAT was fitted - my understanding is that all 24o's were fitted with these by 1990 - so I guess that an alternative system has been fitted - it looks in vgc. Can anyone confirm that all 89/90 saloons had CAT's - Im curious.

The engine bay is super clean and Ive attached some photos.

I am now competely out of parking space as the attached pic illustrates! Its good to see that many 240's together though.........

Very nice Ian,

Cat thing, yours is CIS injection which is mechanical fuel injection (not a bad thing no black box nonsense) I don't now how they could put a CAT on it. I had a late 90 740 2.3 GLE with the exact same engine in it and that had no CAT either but I've seen cars the same as mine that did have a CAT. Either way if its not on it I really wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

But I've only just managed to get the 'ideal' group of 240's together:

1 x daily driver
1 x back up daily driver
1 x potential show car

The good thing is that all of the above (even with wheel, tyre and exhaust upgrades) comes to a total cost far less than some pay for one newer eurobox!

Thanks Ali.

Sorry, I was being rather dim! I knew that it was a mechanical injection system with no black box and lambda sensor but didnt realise that you couldnt fit a CAT to this set up. Hooray!

My 1990 GL has a cat and all of the electrical gubbins. As the exhaust system is nearing the end of its life Im going to fit a non CAT Jettex system. Mike Brace is brazing on a lambda boss to keep the black box happy!

We all dream about buying a warehouse and filling it with our favourite old Volvos but it seems you're the only one "living the dream".

I'm sure the picture below is the next step for you, but it'll be all 240s.

Can you add me to the list for when you get bored of the new Red one please :-) I saw a nice silver GLT saloon near me in Hall Green/Brum the other day & I think I'm going through a phase where I prefer the saloon to the estate. As you say, "must resist".
