Default Horn fues keeps blowing!

hi there

I noticed my horn and fog lights weren't working so had a look at the fuse to find it had blown.

I replaced the fuse and tested horn and fog lights, all seemed ok.

drove the car for a while and tested the horn and fogs again..... nothing.....

I guess there is a short somewhere, any ideas where?

Thanks
Matt

My guess is somewhere in the wiring at the front of the car where the horns/fogs are as that is where all the abuse will occur from the road. I had a short on a horn circuit once (horn on all the time!). Discovered the loom had chafed on ill-spaced ty wrap intervals.

I had a good look at all the wires that go around the front of the radiator and coudn't see any exposed wires etc.

I put a new fues in and tested horn and fogs, and everything was fine. I decided to drive around with my fog lights on to see when the fues would blow.

I was on the road for 2 mins on a straigh bit of road doing 25 mph when "pop" fuse gone!

so...

it seems this fues goes when i'm both using the items on its circuit but also when i'm not. because of this i'm thinking the issue must be upstream of the relay? Does anyone have a wiring diagram of any idea where to look?

Thanks

M

Well..... I thought i'd follow this up with my findings!

since this pesky fuse was blowing even when the horn/fog were not in use i figured it had to be an issue pre-relay and as such probably not due to a worn wire under the radiator in actual fact it was due to a worn wire to the right of the accelerator.

To the right of the accelerator is a small fues/relay box this is held verticle by a bolt in the left hand corner this had come loose allowing the wires coming out the back of this box to sit in the path of the accererator pedal.

after many years of chaffing this had worn through two wires and was shorting against the pedal during acceleration!

some electrical tape and re-tightening of the offending bolt has fixed this as well as fixing the bulb that illuminated the fuel guage on the dash!

so if your having electrical issues its well worth a check, you only need to remove the bottom trim bellow the steering wheel!
