Default Be gentle replacing the upper radiator hose!

Hi,
Just a word of warning. I'm on my third upper rad hose due to ongoing problems with leaks from the funny three-way connection. I've tried Volvo-branded as well as a Febi part and the result was the same....leaking.

I think I've determined the root cause: the part itself can make contact with the hood when the hood is closed. I believe that this puts pressure on the joint which can then lead to leaks. What I did to try to address this was to cut about 3/4" off the new piece that connects to the top of the radiator to lower the overall profile of the top of the hose. I think this will work.

Anyhow, the REAL reason for the post was to warn anyone replacing this hose that the connection on the radiator itself it quite brittle. When I pulled off the old hose I broke a piece right off the top of the rad itself (woops). The replacement piece still went on ok but I'm a bit concerned that this may come back to bite me...

It is a fairly common problem with the T4 and the 2.0T, as they are made of butter and the top bit is very fragile. I know that quite a few people keep a spare or two for when they are going to need it..... Apparently there is a much better stronger after market one.

PS. This problem does not apply to the non turbo petrol models, just in case people start panicking
