Replacing central console sliding cover
Hi guys,
Does anyone know what the process may be to replace the sliding covers in the central console? Im referring to the sliding stuff that covers the cup holders and the little cubby in front. Mine have been scratched since I bought it and whilst not annoying, if its an easy enough job at reasonable cost, I would be tempted to do something about it |

I had all the silver trim (on the dash and doors) replaced with walnut trim but left the sliding covers as they were because the dealer said it was a big job to replace them.

So, from my experience of trying to get some money and jigsaw pieces (don't ask) out that had slid underneath the front storage compartment lid and gone beyond retrieval getting the centre console out is fairly simple. Side panels off, 2 bolts front, 2 bolts rear, few electrical connections and the gear linkage (although I couldn't figure out how to disconnect, I had sufficient clearance to pull back and get in to get offending items out).
Now, to replace the sliding covers you effectively have to strip the centre console down from the bottom up. I have seen the tech manual on how to do this and there are lots of warnings on being careful not to break bits so perhaps that was what the dealers were more worried about when dealing with Lexman8's car.

A better description is probably time-consuming.
Actually, the walnut sliding covers wern't part of the upgrade pack (but could be purchased as spares) which perhaps implies something about the ease of replacement compared to the other parts.

Thanks all, I think based on the feedback, if I compare how annoying the scratches are vs the process to replace, sticking with things as they are is the wise move!
