Default 480 running problem

hi guys my brother in laws 480 has been playing up for sometime now.it starts ok but when he come up to junctions or give ways and has to come off the gas, it cuts out whether the engine is cold or warm.it also ticks over very roughly despite having a new battery, plugs, dizzy cap & rotor arm and air filter.there were also two dodgy plug leads that were replaced .it seems as if it is running on three cylinders.
sometimes the car will almost stall but seems to catch itself and pick the revs back up to normal.
the car drives well otherwise and on the motorway there is plenty of power and drives as it should when you accelerate.its quite baffling as to what is causing this problem.i thought replacing all that stuff would make it run ok?have any of you guys experienced the same thing with the 1.7 480 injection? its a 1993 model.any help appreciated.cheers

On the off chance that it is not the Idle Valve, try cleaning the connections on the air mass sensor. Just follow the intake pipe from the Air filter box until you get to the sensor with its connector on one side. Mine was playing up the other week, very very simalar syptoms. Took a garage chappy all of 5 mins to suss it then he re-wired the connection for me. Had been driving me mad for weeks!
On another thread I placed regarding my syptoms I was advised to change the 'little box of tricks' attached with pop rivets on the coils mounting bracket. Does anyone know what this 'box' is called? I have not changed mine yet, but if the syptoms return that will be next......... along with the idle valve now perhaps.

Yet another useful thread it seems!
Good Luck.
