Default SC-805 or SC-901?

hi, new to the forum, (1st post)
I have just bought a 2001 C70 T5 Cabriolet, which is fitted with a non standard Alpine stereo.
I would like to put back as standard, but how can i tell what was originally fitted?
SC-805 or SC-901 can any body point me in the right direction as the SC-901 needs a separate amp so i am told. How can i tell if my car has an amp fitted?
Which is best?

Thanks

Not sure if it's in the same place in the soft top, but on my coupe the amp is in the boot, if you pull back the trim on the nearside of the boot you should see it mounted between the rear light unit and the plastic compartment on that side.

Has it got the speaker on the top of the dash, in the centre?

We had a 901 in our S70. We swapped it for an 805.

Any volvo dealer should be able to tell you what it came with from the factory.

As to choice I'd go with the 901 - the adjusable EQ on it's own is worth it IMO.

I would hedge a bet and say it has an amp in the boot somewhere, I have the Apline 100w one but cannot find it in my boot anywhere!

If you want to find out if you have one turn the volume up, it should shake the car!

All the C70's had the Dynaudio speakers so if you don't have an amp (doubtful) you can get one rated up to 200RMS as thats the rating for the speakers!

Should have said the rating is per channel!

If it has the "big" amp (4x100w) then that lives in the boot behind the carpet on the passenger (UK) side close to the back of the car.

Other amps could be fitted. Either in the centre console below the head unit (4x50w) or under the drivers (UK) seat (4x75w).

If you find a grey box with only one cable going into it then that is the dolby processor which will only do the dolby function, it isn't an amp as such.

There isn't enough room for an amp behind the speedo lol.

I've said where any of the Volvo factory amps are located.

You can get various adaptors for using aftermarket amps with Volvo head units or vice versa.
