Default D1S, D2S or D2R

Hi all,

hope anyone here is knowledgeable about Xenon bulbs as I have not found the right source of information yet which replacements bulbs I need:
Car is a pre-facelift (03-2006) 2.5 T LHD (albeit on UK plates) with factory Xenon/HID. No adaptive headlights I believe. Does anyone know if I need D1S, D2S or D2R replacement bulbs for these ?

Thank you in advance !

Take a headlamp out (20seconds) remove the cap and have a look, its stamped on the bulb.

D2R, check !
Strangely enough it seems I have H7 for main beams where I thought all the pre facelift XC90s were described as having Bi-Xenon ..... is it just me with H7s for main beams ?

I was under the impression that the xenon lamps were dipped beam, with H7's providing the main/high beam, of course I could be talking total mince

The H7 supplements the xenon bulb on main beam - primarily for signalling/flashing as xenon bulbs that 4-5 seconds to reach full light output.

So if I understand well, the Xenon lights are still working on main beam yet the H7s assisting as it were ? Any chance of replacing the H7 bulbs with better quality ones to allow better main beam light ?

Cheers Dave, glad to see Osram stocked as that is my brand of choice. Have you had any experience fitting these H7 bulbs next to the standard D2R ?

I actually fitted H9's (2011 model year Exec)

See the story here

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=327557

Colour temp is what you are looking for (I think) - mine are 4750K and look fine alongside the xenons

Cheers

Dave

Not sure if I could fit H9s instead of the H7s that are in there now, this is one of the last pre-facelift cars that I have now, I found other differences with the 2010 and 2012 ones the headlamp unit would slide into place and was then connected, these old ones not so much ....

Funny, you linked to another thread of mine for another car, I should really stick not only to a model yet also to pre-facelift or post facelift so all information I received is useful and not try a different one so often :-)
