You only get to manually change the geartronic box over the top 3 gears. I found that out on a test drive, tried to change down from 4th to 3rd nothing happened. No its only the top 3 gears says salesman. That was on a 17 plate xc90 .
Just check so you know what you are getting, I don't do autos, but salesman says you can select manual change in sport mode so I took a test drive. Let's say our interpretation of manual changing the gearbox differed greatly.

The 8-speed auto in my 2014 V70 D4 gives me selection of all 8 gears. Too many to bother with most of the time, so I normally just use Sport Mode on occasions instead.

This is seriously worrying as in fact it limits usability of the gearbox severly. It is better than nothing but I agree dropping from 4th to 3rd to overtake is a must.

Interesting... It wouldnt make sense to limit manual mode just to top 3 gears. Could you confirm what model year is your car and wether it is 6speed or 8 speed geartronic?

13 plate MY14 geartronic 6 speed D5 215.

Makes sense to have all gears so you could select 2nd to pull away with in the snow and avoid spinning wheels. Also for long climbs or descents to use engine braking you may want gears as low as that too depending on circumstances.
