I had the old XC60 for 9 years and loved it. However the hybrid technology is extremely frustrating, if you think that locally you will never use petrol then think again. My car every time I drive it will start in electric mode and allow me to back off my drive in electric and the second you put it in drive it switches to petrol only and will stay in that mode for several minutes, which means all local short journeys burn petrol. The dealers do not know how the technology works and the uk customer support told me they are not technical and couldnt help. if you are doing longer journeys say 12 mile round trip it can be quite good, but dropping the kids at school or doing the weekly shop will burn petrol. For such an expensive car lacking an electric only mode is incredibly disappointing. My advice is until they fix this issue then look elsewhere for a hybrid.
Fancy backing off your drive! You should back ONTO your drive. Much safer for everyone that way. Odd that yours switches to petrol-only when you pull away. Do you floor it? Do you put it into D or B? I've made the mistake a few times of pulling back on the lever too may times which, if you're in B already, will start the ICE. The ICE will then run for a short time even with minimal throttle input. It's something to do with emissions control apparently, possibly to get the cat up to temperature.

I agree with Paddybear. I think you need to have your car checked as My T8 is a delight to drive in electric drive only for all my local travel needs. The petrol engine never starts (unless it is extremely cold, low hybrid battery or I depress the accelerator too hard).

X2 - can drive for several days with no petrol.

Things to watch:

Make sure allow aux heating is ticked, or it will fire up the ice for cabin heating

Dropping past B (as stated)

Flick to pure on starting, or slow speed manoeuvres over kerbs etc can kick the ice in.

Avoid hitting the flappy paddles

If your fuel light is on the aux heater is not available, so ice comes on regularly

Any loss of rear wheel traction, even momentary will bring the ice on

Having the charge button on

Having car on hold increases the speed with which ice is triggered

Trying to drive away with your seat belt off, push the gas and it starts the ice
