Xc90 2009 (59) 34K 2.4 Diesel Geartronic. Getting average 27 mpg. Mostly rural, some town, occasional motorway.
I would be interested in how the remapping goes - and the price, etc.
I notice that the auto changes up (revs drop) at 30mph and again at 40 mph. Which, as I tend to spend most of the time on any journey travelling circa mid-30s mph, means that the revs are held artificially high most of the time. Thus wasting fuel.

Tried using manual gearchange, but don't understand the technique, particularly when slowing/stopping.... Bit of a Newb on this car

Remap booked for Monday, so will advise, have a few long haul runs, so hope to do another 6k+ in next 3 months, road/driving profile should be about the same so whilst not scientific we'll see what that brings on the mpg front, Will start a new thread on experiences, if people interested.

Only slight impact on my test is that I've added a Westfalia towbar and space saver tyre/cradle in the last couple of weeks adding I'd say about 50-60kgs

A few people have said that the remap process does improve on the gear changing due to more torque lower in the rev range, and also hesitation on exiting junctions is also improved.

Cost about £380, +2 mpg at my mileage 25k (might be more) gives me a break even of around 14 mths.

Forgot to say running with tyres at 39 psi

Cheers

Got 37mpg sitting at between 55-65 mph on A roads. Thought that was pretty darn good.

County Antrim to Manchester this weekend, 6 travelling with luggage, 27.9mpg actual on the way over (wife doesn't "neck" the tank like I do so possibly would have been slightly better). 33.5mpg on the D.I.S on the return leg (not yet filled up to work out return actual). Typical cruising speeds 68-78mphr, Geartronic R Design with 19" wheels and aero bars. There really can be very few cars out there that are as comfortable and effortless to drive these sorts of distances (600 miles in just over 24 hours). No complaints from passengers, no tiredness, no aches or pains. No blind spots and no sluggish overtakes (this thing shifts even when loaded). Journeys like this make you realise how accomplished the XC90 really is. Only minor grumble is loosing FM signal over high ground.

I have a 2010 auto box xc90 with 50000 on the clock now. I have just completed a 1000 miles from Wigan in Lancashire to Bude in Cornwall. The drive included 600 miles of motorway driving plus 400 of A road driving. The motorway drive were also stop start due to incidents and congestion. There was four in the car plus a fully loaded boot and I mean a fully loaded boot! We used £160 worth of diesel or two tanks. That equates to 33 miles to the gallon which I was really impressed with. Saying the car is comfortable, spacious and a pleasure to drive over distance. We own another diesel which I calculated this from but I reckon te total journey cost us an extra £50. The motorway journey cost £100 in total, £50 each way. Whilst on Bude beach car park I watched a guy in a x 5 drive around and around for a parking spot large enough to fit in. No problems parking mine, no moaning from my wife and kids! Big thumbs up to bliss, it's simple and very effective.
Anyone driving through Birmingham on the m6 should watch for the speed cameras on the back of the variable speed sign across the motorway.

Just back from Bude myself. Yours the silver one? We took our T6 with 70,000 miles, averaged 22mpg with rails and a surfboard to and from Essex. Didn't use the car much whilst down in Cornwall as we stayed a short walk from the beach and had just a couple of days out, but considering we used to only get 24-25 mpg from our 2 litre Grand Scenic, pretty pleased with the XC90 - it's all relative!

Drove up from Western France yesterday in my 2010 3.2 R-Design. Just under 400 miles, 5 adults and a heavily laden boot including cast iron BBQ, gas cylinder, beer and wine as well as luggage. Car swallowed the lot without a murmour - power in reserve, with none of the wallowing that you see on other loaded up cars and whisper quiet at speed. I stuck to the speed limits, so 110/130kph on French motorways and 70mph in England. Managed 23.7 mpg which I was pretty pleased with.

XC90 2009 manual D5 Active with 58k on the clock. Tyres at 39PSI.
I tend to use branded diesel since the engine sounds rough when cold on the supermarket stuff.
I use a fuel log app to record mpg brim to brim. Last 8 months average 31.8 mpg.

This summer, Scotland to Brittany with BP standard diesel, a cracking 36.6.
Brittany back to Scotland on Super U supermarket diesel, a slightly disappointing 34.2.
Same driving style for both runs.
XC90 handled the trip with ease as we relaxed in cool comfort.

But the great advantage of Super U diesel is its about £1.13 a litre against Uk prices of £1.41 a litre!! £16 a tank difference.
Got my 08 T5 to do 36 MPG up and down France at full chat. As always very comfortable!
