Default 1996 B6304 in 1991 960

Hey friends,

I need a replacement engine for my 1991 B6304 960. Could get one from a 1996 960, but while my car runs on Motronic 1.8 the 1996 runs on Motronic 4.4? Can I still make the engine run if I also replace the ECU or is it more difficult? Any help appreciated!

The wiring is nothing like

it should work but you will have to use the sensors off your engine fitted to the new engine

The engines with a Motronic 1.8 have two temperature sensors, one of them on the back of the engine. The engines with a Motronic 4.4 have a combined temperature sensor; the sensor on the back of the engine is gone.
Consequently, the temperature gauge in the display is different.
