740 87MY Heater & Rain - By Design??

As some know, I had to remove the heater motor due to it burning/seizing. I refitted the replacement today but found the floor tray (passenger side) to be full of water.
I can only assume the rain over the last few days has come down through the scuttle via the heater box into the car. So is that by design that the fitted fan heater motor normally diverts this water out through the heater drain? Or do I have a problem?
I did remove the scuttle the other day but couldn't really get the black plastic shroud off which covered the intake. Am I needing to revisit this (when/if the weather improves!!) ?
Hope someone can help

Someone had a leak on that side of the car on another forum. It turned out the be the plastic shroud or rather a lack of sealant where it fits near the screen. The stuff you need is butyl strip which can be found on ebay but tiger seal or similar would do the job if you are stuck.

There is a water drain on the bottom of the motor housing that can block up so it might be worth checking that OK as well.

I think that mine is ok, that was really the reason I didn't remove a black shroud that I found under the scuttle, not having any sealer. As I couldn't remove it, I couldn't see and therefore understand what actually stops water from going down into the heater box. Hence why I believe this is by design.

Am I wrong here? Or am I missing something from the box. The drain isn't blocked. And to be honest, the size of of that drain implies it is meant to cope with quite a bit of water. Its never been a problem.
