Default S60 4th service

Hello folks new to the forum, we have a 2019 S60 that is coming up for 42000 mile and will be due its service and Mot soon, in the service book it says about a free service for Vida update, is this just a visual inspection and to check computer for fault codes? The service its due itms the 4th service and first since we have owned it. Is this something that has to go back to deeler or can we just use our own non volvo garage for our service and mot? We are a 2hr trip to the nearest volvo dealer,
Cheers Paul

A volvo dealers service gives you free software updates, free Volvo Assistance and the chance of goodwill from Volvo if you get a major mechanical failure in the future. It also gives you a long drive and probably a full day out.

You can of course forgo the above and get an indie which will definitely be cheaper and most likely more convenient and closer. If the car is working well the software update is not necessarily that critical.

It is really up to you.

4th service on a Petrol SPA car is about 500 quid at a main dealer. It is the usual filters and spark plugs.

If you are planning on keeping the car a while, I would go to volvo for the service.

The reason is that they seem to have stopped supporting the software on sensus based cars. Updates stopped last september. So if you get it serviced by volvo you will know it has all software updates that are possible.

I would then go to an indie from year 5 onwards.

My dealer comes and collects the car then returns it when done, I just sit in front of the telly and wait.

Only a dealer can install the software updates, or a Volvo Specialist (but not all can). You'd have to ask the Volvo Specialist (if there's one nearby) if they can do software updates. An ordinary non Volvo garage can't install updates.

Might be wrong, but I doubt a dealer will return and collect on a 4 hour round trip.
