Losing oil, Limp mode, Diagnostic
Wow so where do I start. I've had my V60 for 1 month and in that time I've had to put in 1 litre of engine oil after 2 weeks and another litre 2 weeks later.
Two days ago on the dual carriageway I felt a loss in power and the car eventually went into 'tortoise' limp mode. I then got a diagnostic check (a mates snapon) and it came up with the EGR fault. See photo of diagnostic below. https://ibb.co/cD1NBH2 These codes were removed/reset. Today the limp mode has gone and I have full power back however I'm very concerned this might be temporary. The paperwork that came with the car suggests the EGR valve and cooling pipe? Was replaced in December 2018. I then called Volvo Colchester who have serviced the car since new. (Last one in July 2018 at 125,000). They advised me that given the high mileage Volvo UK would definitely not give any goodwill to this repair. They based this on the fact that Lex Autolease who owned the car previously who buy thousands of Volvo had to pay the full balance for the last EGR change. What do you guys advise? I can get it cleaned for £60 at my local garage. Would this help at all? Any other recommendations? My local Volvo dealer has said they need to diagnose the faults themselves and give me the bill for the diagnostic. And then contact Volvo UK to see if they will do anything towards it. In the mean time i have to pay for there diagnostic and a hire car etc. Help please.

you have bought someone else's problem it seems regarding oil consumption .you have had it a month , you need to chase the garage which sold it to you regarding that problem . This engine uses a unique volvo oil grade , has this been used all it's life I wonder? What did you top it up with?snap on codes are meaningless here . The first volvo garage have no right to guess as to what volvo may or may not do for you regarding the EGR issue .

Shame you didn't take a picture that clearly showed the full codes.
Maybe, like mine last week, your EGR valve has begun to sometimes stick open? I had a short 'episode' of power loss that seemed to recover but then it came back a couple of hours later, then became permanent. The registered DTCs were P2413, P00be, P00bf and P2262, read using my cheap ELM327 Bluetooth interface and the Torque app. I wrote up my experiences with Volvo goodwill on the last couple of pages (50% on the valve and 100% on the cooler). My car is also ex-leasehire (bought at auction) and had also had the EGR cooler replaced prior to my ownership, however mine has only done 72k miles. I don't believe my car is losing engine oil though.

Hi Volvov602015 Please read my differents contributions, you will know my V60 2014 history. To summarize, my car has 83000 miles (132000kms), the engine burns 1 liter oil every 625 miles (1000kms) since the car had reached 52000miles. I had had the EGR system fixed 4 times, last in november 2018. What happened to you, the previous owner buy a new car ( probably he knew that the engine was burning oil) and you car was sold without any indication. With my V60, I don't want to do that because as I know the problem, I'm responsible and I must tell to the buyer my engine problem.... Try to cancel the sale if possible. To fix the oil consumption you need to replace the piston rings (your engine may have important leakage). My VIN if you need it : YV1FW73CDE1198717 As a diagnostic they will made a leakage test => about 1000€ Then, they will ask you to remove the breech (1500€ more... and the car will become unavailable unless you put back the breech ... add 1500€) Then , they will probably ask you either to change the engine (12000€) but will they participate ? At what rate? For my own I give up...to expensive 1liter Castrol 0W20 is sold at 10€ /liter on the web. Good luck Regards Christophe

Thanks for your insight I am overwhelmed.
I have contacted Volvo UK and await their response. I will let you know what they say. I have been using Castrol 0w20 low ash to top up. Limp mode is intermittent. It's off at the moment. Guess only time until it comes back on. The car was purchased at auction. It has full Volvo service history. I want to avoid spending any more money on the car. That includes on a Volvo diagnostic. However if I am left with no choice It's the only line I can take to get Volvo UK to move forward with this.

How many miles can you do with 1 liter oil ?
Mine started to use 1/2 liters every 3000kms ...now 1 liter per 1100kms

VOLVO considers the oil consumption is abnormal when it is above 1/2 liter par 1000kms. Volvo official.

Hi all,
I am having the same problem here with 2015 S60 D4. I got it under Volvo Selekt Approved Cars with 12 months warranty. The day I bought it EML came on had to get EGR reworked. Now 4 months later and under 3,000 miles EGR problem. Took it into the local official dealer and carried out cylinder leakage test and now they want to open the cylinder to identify the fault at the cost £1500+. That is just to open the cylinder head only. Don't know what will cost after we open them up. However!! The dealer is saying it won't be covered by Selekt Warranty and I would have to pay for the works. WTF??? It looks like I am following the routes of some people who went through cylinder leak test and engine replacement issue. But without warranty when I DO have warranty. Can anyone help??
