Default S60 2014 D4 Diesel 60k miles Fuel level not changing

Hi all,

My fuel gauge (electronic bars) has stopped working - it is showing about 5 bars but the car ran out of fuel, just as I was wondering when I had filled up last

I am guessing that the gauge is stuck, otherwise it would be 0 or full (or does anyone know if it holds the last position?). There is no error code to even check on Haynes.

I will be opening up the tank to have a look, but does anyone know the part number of the arm assembly? I can find parts online but not sure if they will fit & don't want to pay Volvo prices if I can help it.

Any tips on doing the job are welcome....or tips on how to manually check the fuel level in case it goes wrong

No experience with Volvo’s but the fuel sender on my old fiat coupe got stuck - especially when it went under 1/4 tank… a good bit of spirited driving round some twisty roads usually unstuck it

Tried pulling the fuel sender fuse and seeing if that resets it?

I do know some of the engine (D2’s IIRC) are a bit of a pig to restart if they run dry….

Ahh, good idea with the twisty roads. Thank you.

I tried spirited hitting of speed bumps but I didn't think of lateral movement 🤔

I tried the fuse, and volvo said they tested the electronics....but they want well over a grand to fix.

Going at it next week maybe, this particular model has no backseat access, so got to cut exhaust and lower the tank...
