First make sure the regulator is ok or not
If its ok then the sensor and regulator are ruled out Sometimes its hard to find a fault , then you have to systematicly rule components/sensors out If the regulator turns out ok will think further , ill have some drawings of the pump I had a bad connector on the fuelpressurerailvalve wich intermittantly shut down the engine If i had asked volvo to trouble shoot that i guess they had changed everything according to the faultcodes and flowcharts Point was that i measured the sensor and connector wich measured ok (for that moment) later i wiggeled it with a running engine and it replicated the fault |

OK, I had to wait a while to borrow a pressure regulator as my one was chacking out fine.
The one I borrowed from a working D5 engine had no effect on the problem. I installed my pressure regulator in other engine and I started fine - confirming beyond all doubt that the fault does not lie with it. So, back to square1 re-checking all the basics........ After several hours of checking each component, and still founding no faults, I noticed a large fluctuation of the live rail pressure reading for a smll moment with the enigne being at rest for over 2 hours With the pressure sensor consistantly checking out OK, I looked to the ECU as the problem. I removed and re-installed it, then tried to start the engine again ................ it started first time. Looks like the ECU was not seated properly Luky I spotted this as I was on the verge of sending it to volvo thanks to all and especially 5cilinder for all yor help |

Whats puzzling me is what you did with the ECU ? just disconnected it and connecting it? It could be that the connector that connects all the sensors to the ECU was " loose" or internally a bit loose Beware that if its an internal loose contactpoint (in the connector or in the ECU) that vibrations could disconnect and shut your engine down at random |
