V70 98 Cuts out/Starting
Hello everyone!
A few weeks ago the car decided to start having little "jumps", where i'd lose power for a split second and it would then regain the power. Immediately this flagged HT leads or dizzy to me, so I put it on the list to replace. However today (of all days when its been chucking it down), it decided to have the power loss, stall the engine, and then refuse to start for about 3-4 minutes. It would start, but not get up to idling revs, and then die. Its happened twice now in very awkward places! Its then OK to drive on. I know only a diagnostic will reveal the true nature, but other than the HT and Dizzy, anyone think of anything else it could be? I'm ordering a fuel filter too as I don;t think this has been replaced for about 3 years. Thanks in advance.

If you have replaced the LT and HT leads and the distributor and rotor arm, then it could be fuel. If the car is attempting to fire but coughs and splutters then this is what it sounds like to me.

Nope - no lambda light. The bulb works though Am I right to rule out the MAF because of this?
I've got a set of leads, dizzy and rotor arm (ordered them a while back as I knew it would need doing!) which i'm going to fit at the weekend. Just to further complicate this thread... it worked fine on the way to work this morning!!! It makes it harder to diagnose being intermittent :P

ETM maybe? Or is it a "cable" eqquipped car?
Blocked injectors? Could be any number of things and it sounds like one of those try til you find it faults! Good luck. |

Check the battery connections are clean and secure. Especially the wire that connects to the top of the +ve terminal as that is a direct feed to the ecu. When that works loose or becomes dirty you can get all sorts of odd problems including random cutting out and non starting. - This fault will not log fault codes as the power loss causes the codes to be reset each time!!
Another possible one is the fuel pump relay (located under the fuse box) which is a fairly common issue.

Righto,
Replaced dizzy, rotor arm and HT leads. The main ignition lead from the black cylindrical object (coil?) had corroded, and the plastic nipple (for want of a better word) had just deteriorated. Gave this a clean, pooped it back in and been fine ever since. So it no longer just cuts out now. However i'm still getting these little jumps. They never happen when its the first time i've fired it up from cold, I can travel 200 miles and it doesn;t happen once. I only notice them after a warm start, and only when i'm travelling long distances. Hopping 15 minutes up the road, I never get it. Might do the fuel filter as i've got 2 new ones just lying about. Anyone else have an incling?
