D5 Polestar / Clutch Slip.
I have a 2012 V70 D5 just coming up to 25k miles. I had the 230 BHP / 470 NM Polestar upgrade a few months ago.
No there's clutch slip! Floor it in 6th at 1500 rpm and pulls then slips. Revs increase to about 2000 and then the speed increases to match. Clutch has not been abused, and cannot be worn (25K miles). Never had any clutch problems in 30 years of driving. My old V40 T4 is sill going strong after 17 years and 200K miles. Contamination? I doubt it. I'm just thinking the clutch can't cope. Done a search and somebody from a few years back with the same problem saying clutch problems are common with the upgrade (but a can't find anymore examples), then there's people saying problems are rare. Anybody got any more recent experiences? Right now I'm thinking of having it put back to standard. |

If the car is a manual, you will destroy your DMF "flooring it" in 6th at only 1500rpm.
Why would you ever want to do that?!? |

It's not due to the upgrade that the clutch is slipping Volvo issued a notice to dealers that certain d5 models under load in 4th 5th & 6th gears the clutch will slip it is covered under warranty & I think there would be a contribution even if the car was out of warranty so I would contact your dealer

Totally agree and it's not something I do in normal driving. I was using it as an example. But the damage this may cause would not manifest itself immediately I'm sure you will agree, and let's be honest such a new car should handle the torque without slipping at any speed in any gear.

Volvo dealer hadn't heard of problems like this and I spoke to the tech who I've known for 16 years so I don't think I was being fobbed off. Do you have any more details please?
Slip it now getting worse fast. Now present in lower gears anything above average acceleration. |

My son destroyed the clutch on his Porsche 964 Turbo doing exactly what you have done - low revs vis high gear and "floored it" - you could smell the clutch burning out. Admittedly his Porsche didn't have a DMF but the result was the same....... If it's getting worse you've "rogered" your clutch and your DMF.

The I found a flat road put it in 6th and floored it to test it and sure enough it was slip. As i've said that's not going to make it slip and so far it's probably no worse than a couple of slipped gear changes. Now at least there is a know fault. |
