Default Stupid question about the end of a contract hire

My XC40 is being returned at the end of the month; its 3 year contract hire is up.

I know I have to return the car with a minimum of 2 months on its MOT, so I'll get it tested, but it's 12 month service is due on the 30th. I'm having it collected on the 19th (the contract terminates on the 26th). Am I right thinking I don't need to get it serviced?

When I asked on the phone, I was told if it was due a service, I had to have it serviced. That sounded a bit ambiguous to me - I was say it's not due a service until the 30th.

Anyone have any idea? I've read the T&Cs and am none the wiser! This isn't a cost thing; I have a service plan...it's a logistics issue!

My feeling is that the contract has ended (26th), so has your responsibility for the car. You have a leeway of 1month or 1000miles from the due service date with Volvo so you will be well out of contract if you take the service down to the wire.

When our contract hire ended a couple of years back, like you it was due a service after the return date, I was not prepared to spend £450 on a 4th service so handed it back with the service reminder light on as was within the 30 day count down
The lease company weren’t bothered about the service not being done as the car went straight to auction

Thanks both. That's my logic too, although when I handed my last V90 back the lease company still stung me for everything they could even though it was off to auction!

I shall hand it back with the MOT and leave it at that.

Also give it a good clean and check the damage criteria, as they may send you a bill for repairs
Polish out any scratches and give interior a good clean
Dents and damage to alloys can go against you
Also make sure all tools and hand books are present
Ours had to get bumpers repaired before handing back, as someone scraped them in Tesco car park
The dent on the roof from a tree branch was missed by the guy collecting it, got away with that one😅

Yeah - been stung like that before! Luckily this has been my wife's car and she hasn't used it really.
