Sorry to hear this Paul. I remember your blog on this car.

What will you replace it with, same model?

Thanks James.

Yes I sort of drifted away from the blog, as things kept going wrong with it. Now I’ve got it running reliably tinworm has got a grip of it.

No plans to replace at the moment, going to be a one car family, (well add in the old motorhome) .
I’ll use the MOHO if i need to go anywhere if SWMBO is out.
The gites business is being hit hard with Covid, so not got the income I had, hence not planning to replace just yet.....

Typical, sort out the issues and now terminal rust. Hope you get a good price for it in France. Hopefully things will improve sometime this year for everyone and holidays will get back on track very soon.

I've owned a fair few P80 chassis cars and I can tell you they all rust, especially in the following places- Sills from the centre outwards(drain hole), rear chassis rails(especially the exhaust side), rear inner wings underneath the arch liners, floor pans usually only a bit of surface rust towards the rear and up at the shock towers. Anyone that says these don't rust has never taken the sill covers off, arch liners off or checked the car properly underneath. They can pass
M.O.T's because they can't see where the rust is and usually holes are but they really shouldn't be passing them at all from what I've seen.
My advice is to take off the sill covers, and arch liners and also if you as re like me the rear bumper because you can see inside the rear chassis legs from there.
These are the first things I do when I buy one. I have owned 5 of them and they are all the same!
If people want these cars to be here in the future then they need to be sorted just now before it's too late.
I feel for you as I wouldn't like that to happen to mine but if you like the car enough you will repair it even if it is more than the cars Worth.

I do know the bumper issue, mine dropped I got new brackets. Released the pop rivets on the rear mud flaps and the bumper fell to the ground Rivets were all that held it on!
Yep I’m smitten with this , it’s like driving an Uber fast armchair. Bit I ain’t got the know how or funds...

Yes you can trust rust to be reliable! Sounds like bad news. Scrap it in France or scrap it in the UK? Cost and logistics?

I echo the concerns about tinworm. I have not found any rust on my sills but absolutely in the arches and the rear bumper. Some photographs of the rot and the rectification work undertaken on my 855 T5

My flabber is gassted!!!! It only went and passed this morning, WOOHOO! There are no holes according to the tester, so the restorer bloke obviously didn’t want the job.
So surprisingly I’ve got this one for another 2 years.
