Default Motor oil grading

According to the manual, ACEA A5 oil is recommended. I am wondering what will happen if I put A3 grade oil in the engine?

Er ...why not just use the correct spec or is there a sudden global shortage of A5?

Pay 20k for a car then put wrong oil in it, sounds stupid to me,

Everything now is for the emmsions chase, the oils are getting more and more refined as engine technology is getting more and more complex,

I believe A5 grades are low ash oils designed to DPF regens and extend the lives of them,

18k between services is a hell of a long time compaired to say 15 years ago when on some engines it was less than half of that
