Hello from Volvo newbie
Hi, took delivery of a 13 plate V40 D3 Se Lux two weeks ago and so far quite impressed with the car. Its going back to the dealer for a couple of issues on Tuesday as when giving it a good hand wash i have noticed a couple of areas of blemished paintwork which wont polish out, one looks like etching from bird droppings. Also when placing rubber floor mats inside, noticed that drivers carpet area only has one carpet stud instead of two. Although the car was serviced before delivery there is a 'book maintenance' warning which hopefully just means it wasnt reset during the service. Finally,on starting the engine from cold it seems quite unrefined with a definate knocking sound which eventually goes away on warm up but ive not heard this on recent deisels and it wasnt a feature of the Audi TT diesel we traded in, or of the 2.0ltr BMW diesel we still have. Is this knocking sound normal?

Collected it today, all issues sorted. The knocking sound is normal for the D3 engine when cold apparently. I did start one of the other D3s which had been on the forecourt overnight. It sounded the same as ours. Courtesy car was a D2 v60. The D2 was definately more refined when cold though there is a marked difference in the two when it comes to overtaking and the sound of the five cylinder D3 when pushed is very nice!
