Default 960 3l 24v in a 245!

Hi guys,

Ive bought a 90' 960 with the intention of putting its engine and box in my 89' 245,

My main concern is if the engine fitted to the 960 is as reliable as the 245 redblock B200E engine?

Also is the autobox fitted to the 960 the same as that fitted to an auto late model 240, i would make custom engine mounts so that the box fits in the same place it would as it would if it were fitted to a 240 engine, this would allow me to fit 240 driveshafts and engine mounts, is there enough space to do this?

Surley it is a 1991? I have never heard of a 960 1990. Anyway, the gearbox is totally different and electronic. The engine is no way near as reliable as an old B200E, but is it of course about twice as much fun!

Im not positive on that havent seen it yet but i have been told its a 90, i already own it but a friend of mine collected it for me, i havent spoke to him yet, I have seen a 90 one though, it could have been a 944 but it had all the chrome, leather and alloys etc.

Is it possible to fit the 3l 24v in the 245 engine bay? Is it worth doing or is there better engines i can fit for more power, i dont want a turbo as thats been done before and is nothing new, same applies to 16v 740 engine, only other option i see is a T6 swap although that would be a bit harder me thinks!!

Ben why not wait for the 164 which should have the room for the engine (basically same size and no turbo). The only problem would be matching the gearbox to the front of the tunnel space. It might go but you will need to feed the three connectors on the side of the gearbox to the gearbox CU. That should make for quite a challenge. Just think 204 bhp in a 164!! I bet the old girl will do 130 mph with that.

All the best, Peter

Basically the reasoning for the 245 is that i will justify keeping it, it has no use at present and if i were to do the engine swap i would use it for hillclimbing etc, the 164's are classic so it costs absolute pennies to keep them on the road, it is a valid point but the B30E has 175bhp so with a bit of tuning i bet it could preoduce as much as the 960, im working on a supercharger idea lately, basically i need a supercharger with its own oil pan and then ill adapt it to fit a) the 164 b) the 245 with 3l 24v and possibly c) the 242 although that has twin carbs.

I was thinking twin carb 164 which is about 135 bhp and would benefit from another 70 bhp to haul it around.

Oh yes i see now,
I am now seriously contemplating a 740/60 turbo engine in the 245, dave b slater reckons it will fit, ive nothing to lose but a few quid and a day or two so i think ill give it a lash over christmas!! I think i will put the 960 in storage until i think of something to do with it,
