Cool MOTday

Well I'm still chuckling now. The brake issue turned out to be a lack of fluid in the reservoir for the rear brakes. I took the car to a local garage for MOT so that I could get an idea of what is required for safe driving.

Here is the failure list:

Set of front wiper blades
O/S/F numberplate lamp
O/S Headlamp beam too high
Slight binding on N/S/R brake

Err and that's it. I'm still chuckling now and I've had it back for 24 hrs. Hoping to drive him to Dartmouth (140 miles) next Sunday.

Can anyone tell me what the modern equivalent of my wiper blades and rear brake discs are as my local motor factor only lists 240 series stuff.

Many thanks. Soon, other one will be back on the road!!!!!

Cool

Car passed MOT and then drove down to Dartmouth without missing a beat. The fuel guage even graced me with a reading after going over a pothole halfway down here! I haven't stopped grinning all morning :-)

Excellent news.

You'll uncover one or two bugs now it's on the road, but overall more use will do it the world of good.

Yup cheers John. You were right. The alternator and water pump failed on my second run. However, I'm still grinning. I just hope the seal set I bought for the pump works. The alternator will be repaired by next weekend ;-)

Well don't bother buying a seal kit for your water pump. It cost me a tenner (+P&P and VAT) and didn't make any odds. I bought a water pump online for £25 delivered and it worked like a dream!
I'm now happily going up and down to Portsmouth - 300 mile round trip - every week and nothing has gone wrong since. It's returning about 25 mpg as well, without O/D so I'm a very happy bunny. Just gotta get rear seatbelts and sort the two seats in the boot which appear broken and then its a body spray.
Splendid. If that was you in the blue 144 near Portsmouth that gave me a big smile and a wave last Tuesday, it was good to see you enjoying your classic too!

Brilliant news!

It will get better and better with use.

Now it's up and running, what are your future plans for it?

Well the plan is to get the bodywork sorted as its pretty dented and scraped, however, I have just treated him to some black and silver pressed number plates (a snip at £21 delivered!!) so that has improved the look already.
After that, dunno really. Hoping to keep him but may go looking for another project..........

Cool Anyone want to buy my '72 145??

Hi All,

My new winter project is arriving on sunday so my wife has decided that the barge has to go. He is MOT'd until about next June (I'll check!) and makes a weekly 300 mile round trip with me. He is also my daily hack. Needs lots of scrapes in the paint sorting but the interior is immaculate and a symphony of brown. Only 83000 covered and tax exempt.
Manual 4 speed which is much better on fuel than you'd think - and believe me I've put that 3000 miles on myself since I put him back on the road!

Not sure what he's worth so make me some offers

Please PM me or email sigane@hotmail.co.uk

Cheers,

Si
