Cheap T5's
I'm thinking of buying a T5 but I don't have loads of money to spend. Whats the cheapest T5 you have bought and how good/bad was it. What problems (if any) have you had with it. I've seen some advertised for just over £2000.
Thanks in advance for your replies. |

RE: Cheap T5's
I will probably be spending a bit more than that, I just wanted peoples views from those that had bought a cheap one. That one I quoted was a 95 saloon in red with tan leather, new brakes and shocks for £2250 ono. Anyone else bought a cheap one?

RE: Cheap T5's
Volvos are no different from any other car - you get what you pay for.
A cheap T5 will have been clocked, crashed, hammered and probably stolen/recovered - or just stolen if it's a private sale. If you can't pay £6K or more, get something else; you really won't enjoy spending a fortune on your "cheap" Volvo and then watching the real owner drive it away six months later. |

RE: Cheap T5's
I've read other peoples replies on here who have paid around £4000 for an estate, just wondering what their experiances have been like. I don't mind high mileage aslong as it has been looked after properly. I have seen another estate for sale, 200k, but one owner from new and full volvo service history for £3950. Anyone else??

RE: Cheap T5's
Sorry to come in again, but a 200K estate with one owner and Volvo history sounds very suspicious - it is possible, but high-milers tend to be multi-owner cars with a company as the start point.
There is a expense point around 100K when a lot of big things fall off the 850, if anyone who's had a real high miler knows when the next "break point" is, please let everyone know. |

You might want to try
alt.autos.volvo newsgroup www.brickboard.com to try and find some stories from 850 owners with high mileages, bear in mind both these sites are almost all american. |

RE: Cheap T5's
If moneys tight a T5 isn't for you. Consider the running costs of the beast. Spares are normally only avalable from Volvo (except sevice items) and they are not cheap (ABS unit with TRACS about £1400!!). The minute you mention Volvo T5 to your insurance they normally cough and splutter and double your insurance there and then. If you start modifiying it like a few of us here (providing you stay legal and tell your insurance what mods you have done)that adds extras to it.
A high mileager has normally had a hard life and things do go wrong. Tyres for it are not cheap,(if you want the best from it) decent 205/50/16's for example are around the £100+ mark ( I run Goodyear F1's). I had a early type T5 for a couple of years and had bucket loads of money thrown at it and have now a 850 20V thats been played with and prefer that to the T5. 130,000 and still good as or better than when it was new.

RE: Cheap T5's
If ur after a cheap T5, have u considered buying from salvage??
If you know what your looking at, and get it checked out before buying you could pick up a bargain. Look for lightly damaged cars, with no chassis damage and the air bag and seat belts intact. Having said that, check the car thoroughly for previous damage, all the usual hurdles, and make sure you start the engine.... It's not the ideal way to buy a T5 but its a cheaper way.... perhaps worth taking a butchers at!!! |
