The HU-803 head unit in my 2001 S60 cuts out if I use it a high volume for more than a few minutes, so that I am left with just the sub-woofer (or nothing if not in pro-Logic or 3CH). If I turn off the radio for a 30 seconds or so, I get the audio back.
I assume this signifies an auto cut out on overheat - I've searched here and swedespeed and can't find any other reports of this fault. is it just me? Anyone know of a fix? |

Yes this is a safety feature of the amplifier rather than the radio unit ... are you playing it at abnormal sound pressure levels or just normal use?

I don't think it's abnormal, I'm nearly 40 and drive a Volvo, so it can't be that excessive can it? Normally when I'm on the motorway, and have it cranked up a bit, but not so my ears bleed.
I wonder if the heatsinks might be fluffed up or something. Looks like a nightmare to pull the head unit to look though. |

Remember to disconect the battery before removing head unit as you will regester fault codes and not to remove battery for at least 10 mins after driving!!

If you have a seperate amplifier it will be under the passengers seat, might be worth having a look about there and seeing if there's any obvious problems before pulling the HU out, it's quite a pain to get out lol.

All dolby pro-logic have an amplifier under the DRIVER'S seat and often when there is a fault its due to corrosion inside caused by wetness for what ever reason .. easy to check by taking it out and taking the cover off .
