Default bit whiney

Hey,

after my first bit of help please, when my engine (V40 1.8i) is on tickover and running at low speeds there is a constant whine - I thought maybe its something to do with the power steering, checked the fluid and it is quite low, just on the bottom of the dipstick (I presume it should be higher anyway) gonna try fill it up to see if the noise goes away, can I just top it up or as I dont know exactly what fluid is in there already should I replace the lot so Im not mixing fluids?

or if anyone else knows what im talking about re the whine noise any help

would be greatly appreciated

Cheers, Danny

Your best using the Volvo recommended power steering fluid, have a look in your owners manual (assuming you have one), the whining sound you can hear could be one of a number of things, belt tensioner pulleys, alternator, power steering pump, best get your head under the bonnet when the engine is running see if you can pin the noise down to a specific area, the V40's do tend to have a bit of a whine when driven seems to be fairly normal.
