Straight back to where the turbo was fitted to get them to fix it methinks......
If it was a main dealer then their work is guranteed and they should fix it FOC, unless it is unrelated to the turbo of course....

He cannot do anything until next week and I don't have the time to get out of work as he is quite far away.

Does anyone have any idea what the actual problem could be?

Would the oil be leaking from the Turbo itself? What about the smoke I get when I 'boot' the car? Would both be related?

Can any of you experts take a look at my car? I live in Manchester and would be prepared to drive to who ever at the weekend?

Thanks again,

Neil

Hi.

The smoke coming out of the exhaust says to me that he seals on the turbo aren't located properly or are shot.

Get straight back to where the turbo was fitted and complain.
If it was supposed to be a new unit, it would seem that it isn't.

It could have been badly handled as well. However they should fix it FOC unless it isn't the turbo, but it is very coincidental if it is not.

I noticed on the thread earlier about the temperature gauge should not get to the red, I was wondering, I have a digital temp as part of the 'onboard computer' - it reguarly reads 100 or more, sometimes up to 105 when in traffic, and settles around 90-95 when on the motorway. Is this normal temp for the T4? as it reads out an exact temp, there's no way of telling if its in a normal range, or if its having problems keeping cool - I did post another thread in the performance section about my T4 not being that quick.

I dont tend to drive it hard until its the oil temp stops reading 'cold', but on the odd occasion I have, it does feel quicker (albeit a bit harsh), any ideas?

Oh yeah, while Im at it, when you put the a/c on - can anyone else feel a heavy vibration (like a fan coming on) when stopped/idling?
Its probably normal, but wanted to check.

Ta very much

I can feel the compressor for the ECC cutting in and out when stopped at lights. Everyone has told me this is normal (albiet annoying!)

Thanks for your reply Dan,

I took it back, it was the seal on the Turbo overflow pipe. He sealed it with some sort of liquid metal. This did the trick for a while but after getting excited with the car again it has unsealed itself I think!

Where do I get a new seal? from Volvo? What do I ask for?

Thanks again,

Neil

I would get the work done at Volvo if you are not happy with where you have had previous work done.
At least they guarantee their work.
The seal won't be expensive but the labour to fit it will.
Also beware, someone I know had his turbo seals replaced but the turbo ended up needing replacing. Turbos are very tricky once you start taking them apart. :-(

Default **UPDATE***

***UPDATE**

Hi guys,

It was a 0.80p rubber seal that fits on the turbo overflow pipe going into the sump!

I am getting it fitted tomorrow...

I will keep you guys posted.

Lol, it is quite funny, since I had the Turbo replaced and had this leak I have to try and keep the revs below 2500 rpm. (to stop the excess oil from gushing out of overflow).. very frustrating as I have been doing long runs... However it was a great way to test MPG!!

420 Miles from filling the tank (£45.00) is that good??

I cannot wait until tomorrow.... I will keep you guys posted.

Also as a seperate note, i am desparate to go on a track day. (see my post in performance car section).

Would be a great way to meet up with some of you guys and exchange ideas etc...

Neil

Okay great news, the seal has been attached.

Actually I had to rush to Volvo and get the top seal/gasket too.

Now the car has no leaks and no smoke!!!

Okay now for my next problem!!!

The guy who fitted it noticed that my rear bushes were very worn.

He told me to get hold of a diagram and he will tell me which parts to order.

Where can I get hold of this diagram? from volvo?

Should I order bushes from Volvo? Are they expensive?

Will this improve the handling?

thanks again,

Neil
