Potholes
Hi,
Although not specific to V40's, this happened whilst I was driving mine. I drove into an unseen pothole which was about 5/6 cm's deep. Now there is a loud clunking noise from front drivers side. Does anyone have any suggetstions re. Damage. Secondly. Are the council liable for cost of repairs? Thanks in advance. |

RE: Potholes
You can indeed claim against the relevant council for damages.
Take a picture of the hole concerned note teh date and time it happened and then a picture of the damage, or maybe a recording of the sound if there is nothing visible. That should help your case. Dan. |

RE: Potholes
Remember to get the pics of the road before you complain. It's amazing how fast a repair can be done if the council thinks they may have to pay out damages...

RE: Potholes
Hi there, strange how I was drawn to your message about potholes & the clunking noise you had after hitting one. I had the same earlier this year, it turned out to be the antiroll bar which had to be replaced on both sides. apparently there has been a slight alteration in the replacements which should ensure that they do not fall off again haha!. As for the council paying up! I wish I had thought about this damage at the time. only late last year I hit a pothole which put my wheel alignment out & cost £29 I made a claim off the council who then pass on to their insurers, it took near on 6 months before I finally received a payment, now reading your message it makes me think that the anti roll bar could have been worked lose in the same deep hole! that reppair cost me £218 a small difference.

RE: Potholes
Sounds familiar. I have a 1998 V40 2.0 that has a clunk in the front suspension, both sides. It occurs mostly at lower speeds over larger sized bumps. I have had the car at a suspension repair shop and they replaced the front struts which were worn, as well as various rubber bushes. The ride has improved but the clunk is still there!
Any suggestions? |
