Default New Spare Key & Remote Fob - Help Please!

Hi everyone, I'm after help and advice please!
My stepdad has recently purchased a 2002 V40 2.0T Auto, unfortunately it only came with one key & remote fob and he's paranoid that he'll lose it and wants a spare!
I work in the motor trade but I'm in Essex but they live in Cornwall so I'm quite a long way away to help out.
I've tried contacting an auto locksmith in Cornwall (Key Machine) who was very helpful but unfortunately he advised main dealer only is the best option.
Before we go down this route I thought I'd check the wealth of knowledge on this forum!!
If anyone from the southwest knows of a good auto locksmith who can do Volvos then I'd appreciate your help and advice!!
Many thanks!

The only way to pair a new immobiliser and fob to the car is via Volvo, either via main dealer or one of the very few independents who have access to Volvo's systems, the price for either option will be similar.

The cheapest option would be to buy a used lockset with 2 x keys/fobs and immobiliser, lock control unit etc. and fit it yourself - the parts are frequently available on forums or eBay cheaply.

Many thanks for your advice, hadn't thought of the lockset idea! I'll look into that! TBH I know the work/cost involved and if it was mine I wouldn't worry about it until the point the keys got lost! I'm sure if they checked they're car/home insurance its prob got emergency key cover included anyway!!

My car only has one key, I only need one!
I insured it with rac for £15, if I lose it they will recover the car to a Volvo garage and supply a new key.
That'll do for me!

Or around about £300 for a new fob!

Or ask for a valet key, will open the car manually and has a chip so will start it up as well, that was £80 for mine.
