Default XC60 2017 aircon compressor leak.

Just had a full service to the XC60 and the garage stated that the aircon compressor has a leak (still works fine, so not entirely knackered).

Go on, guess how much they want to replace it?

£2,670.72

Needless to say, I didn't give the go ahead.

When you say it works fine, does the system still have gas in it and is blowing cold? If so then could be slight oil weep from the bearing which shows up under ultraviolet light if there is dye in the system.

It seems to work as well as ever, plenty of cold air. Looking at the compressor it has a bit of dampness at the end of pump, but it looks quite minor. It's not dripping, rather just a little damp. I guess there are companies that fix them rather than simply replacing, any recommendations?

You can see the leak, I touched the top of the stain and it's quite dry (the dirt just fell off) not like a newish leak where it's quite tacky.

Hopefully, it can be fixed. the vehicle has only done 40,000 miles, so hopefully the compressor isn't not beyond repair.

Yes, there are plenty of outfits that can repair a compressor but first I would wait until it stops working or starts to emit unusual noises e.g sound of worn bearing.

As said, my guess is yours has a very small weep but the gas seal is not compromised. If it is then you will find the gas will leak out very fast, usually days but can take a few weeks. So if yours is still working OK after a few months then I suggest all is well, but listen out for any strange noises from the compressor - if you hear anything new then stop using the a/c and get it checked out but until then I would simply leave it be and enjoy your air con.
