2011 xc90 random will start won’t start
Hi there, my first post on here about my xc90. Its a problem that’s been around for about 10 months. It started being quite random but now it’s 9 times Out of 10.
There are no warning lights, and no obvious reason. Sometimes it will start and sometimes it won’t. It’s not the battery, starter or alternator. (Our old school mechanic has checked/ replaced these things but this is beyond his area of specialism). When it won’t start the engine isn’t turning over. You can try it one time and it will start. Another day you wait for an hour trying it every 2 mins and it will start after an hour. |

I wonder if this can be diagnosed using Vida- sounds like an immobiliser problem (I assume you have tried another key already) - perhaps Vida can tell you when you insert the key if it sees it i.e. if the receiver is working or not.
Have you tried parking it somewhere else? https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/archi.../t-142218.html Last edited by XJSDriver; Jun 5th, 2020 at 16:08. |

I had same problem on an earlier V70.
It turned out to be a faulty ring aerial at the ignition. I understand that it is this aerial that interacts with the key, imobilising if it does not get the correct response. Hi recon Vida would confirm this. John l |

Thanks both. It’s not to do with where it’s parked as the problem has caught us out when parked in a number of places. The second suggestion sounds more likely. Taking it to a garage to connect it to Vida to see what that says seems a sensible next step. Any recommendations on trustworthy garages for volvos in south London or further south?

That would be my guess but as you say Vida will pinpoint it.
