Default S40 54 plate 'nearside steering arm'

Does this part go by any other name, can't find any reference to it and my MOT mentioned it has slight play, is replacement the best fix and is it a diy job.

Hi,

A steering arm could also be a steering rod, a tie rod, or a track rod, they also call it a steering ball joint kit. in the pic 8+10 make up the steering arm in the red circle.

If there's play then replacing is the only fix, it's not that expensive as a part, but you'll need to get a geometrical "toe-in toe-out" realignment of the front wheels after replacing one.

Or he could have meant the control arm, which is a triangular shaped arm with a bushing at each angle.

The bushings on these are a bit more expensive, and a bit more difficult to replace, and you may need a press, that's why this arm is more commonly sold as a whole unit, they go for around 100-150€.

He mentioned removing gator to access so must mean the rod? The ball joint is OK as I asked about changing it.
