Are you aware of the built-in code reader on your car?
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=122391 It might be a good start to check for codes. They don't always directly indicate where the problem is, but in my experience if the ECU is faulty it won't even read out the 000 code. |

Thanks for the reply, it's off to a local mechanic next week - hopefully it's just slipped its belt. Normally I'd do it myself, but it's stuck in a public parking place and my garage is full of Sunbeam Alpine and Matchless motorbike!

I recently had a “failure to proceed” moment. We went to Somerset from yorks in pouring rain. Rained all next day, didn’t need to use car. Next day, no start, not a whimper. Dried all leads, under cap, still no start. Took out plugs, warmed them up, back in quick, instant start. Not happened since, despite continuing rain, general dampness.
