Sadly, the possibly limited life of the ERAD, the disdain Volvo shows towards victims, and now the absence of a trustworthy local dealer means I have been looking at alternative marques.
I'm leaning towards an all-electric EV to replace my lovely XC90. Unfortunately there isn't an EV which comes close to its equal yet, so I know a wait is in order

I am nearing despair with my 2016 XC90 T8.
Around 3 years ago, weeks after I bought the car it became app aren't that the ERAD had failed. Fortunately this was replaced under warranty. At the time I thought that was actually probably good luck, as it shouldn’t go again. Since December this year my car has been virtually unusable. First of all the car wouldn’t detach from the charger, a simple solenoid problem or so I thought. £750 later for a replacement charging socket I am informed that the on board charger has gone, which will be another £2000. I have since had the charger stuck 3 more times, each time Volvo reprogramming the car in the vain hope it might fix the issue. It hasn’t, and now I also intermittently get a “charger still connected” message. Despite saying hold for 7s to override, the car won’t start around half the time (it’s currently immobile on the drive). I also get an ESC service light intermittently, which the Volvo assist guy suggests might be linked to the ERAD being on its way out again. Speaking to a local specialist he mentioned another customer who had 2 ERAD replacements in a 2.5 year period, with no interest from Volvo to do the right thing. It is so disappointing as I love the car, but it is clear Volvo rushed out the hybrid tech without adequate testing. I thoroughly wish I had never gone near the hybrid tech. |

Sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds a bit odd from your dealer.
I had a failed socket (got stuck in then jammed out) and a failed on-board charger at the same time. The whole lot done by my local dealer was just over £1700 all in. Can has been (touch wood) perfect since.
