No need to drill any hole.
Use this hole for cable out of box but DONT FORGET BEFORE YOU SOLD TO PUSH THROUGH cable after Cinch will not pass. Fix the cable like this. INside the box I put one big cable ties just in case to not pull out cable on installation or later anyway... THis is the AUX audio cables. As I didnt have long cable FEmale I put this one but its simple to buy long cable and pull it to middle front seat box or glove box. But for driver it easy to be in middle box mobile phone than in glove box.

10 SOUND ON AM RADIO or ANY AUDIO
Put back FUSE nr. 6 put some music on your mobile phone and connect it with simple
earphone cable. I made one for testing quickly. Now switch main radio unit POWER and put on for example on AM mode as no one use this mode at all or put on FM mode. You can hear all AUX, MP3 or other music, even your laptop or other tablets ect... When you wish to listen radio - just pull headphone cable from mobile phone and voila its working. I hope that this will save a lot of money for so expensive modules what some producers wont just for listening music in XC90 from 2002-2006 as from 2007 Volvo install AUX plug in middle box. And of course in box in middle of front seats I will put female Jack like Volvo done in newer models after 2006. This I mean. Voila AUX is working for less than a 5 Euro. The 2007+ models all come standard with an AUX input by the cup holders

Imortant note !!!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Im kindly asking everyone who is doing the same work to take care to NOT place audio cable from modules to glove or middle box compartment in any vicinity, crossing or touching any of AIR BAGS in our cars. Please take care that AIRBAGS must be avoid and you can easily find a route to middle box or to glove compartment avoiding airbags going away from them, under the seats, on middle row, under the plastics under the door ect. I will in next days try to made some photos where is the safe to place audio cable without going near Airbags. I will pull some plastics near doors to be more clear. Its easy job - pulling out plastics fantastics covers. Drive safe and enjoy in music. Sorry that I forgot to mention more visible (i do once) this important thing.

This is one of the most extraordinary write ups on here and even though I'll never do this, I'll say thank you.
Two things spring to mind........I wonder how many will try it out and thank goodness my head unit is compatible with a Grom Bluetooth unit. Great effort though!

Hi, first of all i want to thank you for this awesome aux solution.
I have two questions: 1. Will the car audio controls (volume, bass etc.) work with this aux input? 2. How is it possible that unplugging a device from the aux input switches the car to play the radio? |

Volvo Ocean Race, I can get my hands on a radio unit. If I sent it to you would you be willing to install the AUX audio cable for me? And of course I'd be willing to pay you for doing it.

A really excellent and well prepared write-up and solution.
Where were you a few years ago when I was looking for this for my then 2005 model ;-) I eventually went with the Dension MOST solution which was very good (optically connected), but would have done this if it was known. |

I did this mod last year, works really well. Pretty easy, you need a VERY steady hand and a good soldering iron. The contact points are TINY.
1. Will the car audio controls (volume, bass etc.) work with this aux input? Yes, normal controls work. Imagine this is just the radio with different input. 2. How is it possible that unplugging a device from the aux input switches the car to play the radio? I am guessing the current switches the the aux input. It works, works very very well! |
