a hard code is a marker which cannot be erased with conventioal code readers .e.g. a hdd code on an srs system .volvo will tell you to buy a new crash module . it can be removed with specialist knowledge of electronics which requires removal of the module there are several companys who can read and reprogram sutch faults at a fraction of the cost of a new unit. what codes do you have showing and why cant volvo explain what the fault is and suggest a course of action?

Thanks Simmy.

At the minute there's nothing in particular. There's a "city safety service required" warning shows up on the dash. I'd like to clear that.
It's more the general tomfoolery that they get up to with bookings, etc. that has me annoyed.

It cost me just short of €300 to get an abs sensor replaced last October. The other one went a few weeks back.
So I bought a generic sensor from amazon.de for €24 delivered, replaced it myself, and even if I send €250 on a good diagnositc computer to clear the error for myself, I'm up €25 and have a computer to help me in the future.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions folks.

A few other members of my family have "gone halves" with me, and we've gone for an iCarSoft Pro.

Hopefully that'll see us all right over the next few years.

Well that's disappointing.

That diagnositc tool I ordered arrived today, but it didn't clear the "City Safety Service Required".

Balls anyway. Back to Amazon it goes.

Aren't there any good, independent Volvo specialists in Ireland if your dealer is useless and your not minded to travel to another one?

I was also a bit hasty with this.

The unit said it was cleared, but it still popped up on the dash. But after a bit of driving, the warning went away and hasn't come back!

So there's a stay of execution on the iCarsoft!
