Could someone who has the Phase 3/Generation 3 car post real life mpg numbers please - looking at the geartronic and curious what you find in day to day driving. I guess you have found an improvement as the engine loosens up? Thanks

Hi, first post on the site !

Just bought a V70 D5 sport - Great car, really love it.

Only done 650 miles since I got it at the end of Dec 07 but so far its got 28mpg !!! Its a manual not the geartronic but that might give you an idea.

Cheers

Fug - you must have a heavy foot..

I thought my XC70 D5 (manual) was poor with a general average around 33-34mpg..

I thought the XC70 is about 2-4mpg worse than a V70.. a geartronic about 2-4mpg worse than a manual..

my car can only get above 40 if you sit at 50mph, anything faster or any level of hard acceleration and the numbers fall rapidly.

I love my car.. but a bit surprised how often I am at the pumps

Got around 33mpg on the V70 loaner I'm driving - has 4000 on the clock
got something similar on the V70 loaner I had 2 weeks ago which had 1200 on the clock.

My S80 new shape gets around 33mpg

Hi,
My V70 D5 SE sport, manual, (4500miles and counting) currently achieves around 34mpg, which i am disappointed about, particulalry as my 2002 V70 D5SE (which my wife now uses-178K miles) regulalry achieves 38-40mpg! I suppose the new engine must be tight and will lossen up with age.
Any one tried the new (ish) premium fuel - is it any good?
Cheers,
Rob

managed to actually get 38mpg from my V70 on a 100mile run today.. didn't exceed 70 and not too much at standstill.. maybe it is getting better with age..

You guys aren't exactly painting the best picture of a new V70 D5!!!

I spoke to a salesman today and asked if the Auto was really as bad as the numbers suggest compared to the manual. His response "Yep".

Are there any new engines in the pipeline?

no idea on engines.. but the improvements need to come in the weight of the vehicles and other losses like friction..energy recovery.. variable aero..

I don't think the chassis feels that stiff when you hit pot holes.. so it's not exactly easy to shed weight from this car.. but if you now see the attention to detail some of the manufacturers are putting on weight saving in every single component.. makes you wonder what the possibilities are.

they need to trim 100-200kg from these things at least.
