2007 S60, CV joints, how much play?
Hi all
Half-shaft bolts changed, but still some clicking when accelerating and decelerating at low speed. Jacked up car, jacked up wishbone to set CV joint at similar angle to normal use, removed wheel. Rotated hub by hand, there is visible lost rotation between one half of the CV joint and the other, also some noise but more of a quiet clunk than a click. Should there be noticeable movement? Should the joints be silent? |

as the lube is 'passive' it can dry with age, or it can escape out of the boot, ultimately meaning metal to metal contact and curtains for the joint. fit new cv's or refurbed shafts and all will be silent..... job should take a fraction of the time it took for a reply to this thread, everyone is far too busy pontificating about wiper blades at the mo....sad! Cheaper and quicker than fannying about redoing a cv joint.

joints
Agree should be no movement, as Four Candles says, the joints are made to a fine tolerance and are rather beautiful in their perfection ,if that's what turns you on .But I am funny that way!

Thanks for the replies as always.
Approx price for a replacement drive shaft please. £75 on ebay rings alarms bells! |

I agree. I got a driveshaft from them recently and it arrived next day, and with a 2 year warranty its a bargain.

My 2 cents: Go with an outfit with a local footprint like the one given.
On other boards the occasional shaft which won't "shove in" is mentioned. A local firm will make things right. Kira |

Both drive shafts changed, a very noticeable improvement. Replacement shafts purchased from JandR
