XC70 rear brakes
Just ordered two new rear brake discs, and like a god boy I sent the vendor my registration number.
However it turns out that they also require the Diameter of the disk as well in order that they can determine which rear discs suit my 08 xc70. Unfortunately, without stripping the rear brakes down, I have no way of knowing what the disc diameter is. So can anyone enlighten me on this. 2008 XC70 D5 Geartronic Se Lux reg AA08LGV |

Alternatively, send them your VIN number & they’ll be able to cross reference it. Or, speak to your Volvo dealer. The parts department should tell you the correct size.

I know three different diameters exist for the front brakes, but are there even different for the rear one?
I bought mine from the Volvo dealer, when I replaced them. That way you always get things that fits. |

I think only one size is fitted to all xc70/v70/s80 on the rear, and it is 302 mm.

Not sure about diameters, but believe some are solid and others are ventilated...

You’re right. I just checked and it appears all the rear disc sizes are the same for the S80, V70 & XC70 (fronts aren’t the same sizes). The only difference is, some have solid & some have vented discs.

To OP - You need 302mm rear brakes. Front brakes are all different sizes, but that doesn’t matter in this instance. Just check whether yours are solid or have vents around the lip of the rear discs, then order as appropriate. I assume your car has an electric handbrake, so make sure you order ones that suit that.

Yes, AWD cars have ventilated rear discs, FWD have solid.

For which reason is that?

I’m not sure of the exact reason, but I guess its to do with dissipating heat. The likelihood of an AWD car being used in rough terrain/steep inclines is higher than a FWD, so brakes need to cool quicker = vented discs.
