Default New Number Plates

Ordered a set of new plates online for the car and they are not quite what I was expecting!

Removed the protective plastic and the front is more grey than white, and the rear is more orange than yellow!

They have the current latest bs number on them but they just looked horrible.

Have I been sold some duff plates?

If that is the case, does anyone recommend a good online supplier?

Thanks

Check if they have the postcode of the supplier in the bottom of the plate and BS AU 145e to show that the meet the latest standard. If not they are illegal.

The fact that you bought them off the internet and you are worried about the colours suggest that they are fake.

From your description if they aren't right it would be nice to know the suppier so they can be avoided by others.

I need some new ones and have been looking at various online suppliers.

In this case it would be best to shop local and just purchase them from a local motor factors, then if you are not happy with them don't accept them.

Probably depends on the store, our local Motor Factor used by many of the local independent workshops has a large display of all of the options such as borders even including pressed steel plates if your car is old enough. If you want something a bit more than basic it may not be available 'immediately'.

And did you need to provide proof of entitlement (V5 usually) and proof of identity and address when you ordered the plates? If not, they are operating illegally.

You used to be able to buy plates willy nilly on e-bay but I notice e-bay have put a stop to that.

Show plates. Covers a multitude of sins.....and illegality.

Even "show plates" are hard to come by now.

There never was any exemption in the law for "show plates", and in recent years a few suppliers have been prosecuted and heaviliy fined.

As a consequence you can still order show plates, but genuinely for show use only, such as car names, slogans, etc. If it looks like a genuine registration number then very, very few suppliers will make them us as "show plates" any more.
