V50 Engine 2.0D : - Toss MPG after changing fuel filter

Exactly what the title says. I put a new Mann Filter in the other week. The old filter was a bit black in colour. I did all the things properly, screwed the cap down, primed etc. got rid of any air locks, and I have no leaks.

However, since then, my mpg has been mediocre at best. I don't think the readout tells the whole truth anyway but it was telling me I was getting late 50s, low 60s on a good run.

Now, on urban parts of my commute, I'm looking at low 30s, and no higher than 54 on the motorway. Oh yeah, I've also been using a shot of Millers eco on a full tank.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure the trip computer's MPG is to be relied on TBH. Ours shows between 48 and 49 mpg (1.6D) regardless of whether you do short or long journeys or drive it like a saint or quicker. All of that after resetting it.

The only accurate way I've ever got an idea of mpg is brimming the tank, note the number of litres on refill and mileage done then do the maths.

I'm not sure why a filter change would impact your fuel consumption TBH.

With fuel and air filters, if the old ones are really overdue for a change, then the ECU may have tuned the adaptation values to cope with the blocked filters, and it may need a couple of fills to get it tuned back to the optimum values for good clean filters.

It will do that sort of thing will it? Weird. I have changed both air and fuel now.

Said it before and I'll say it again. This engine isn't a patch on the 1.9 PD I had in my Mk1 Octy.
