Thanks Clan and John for your words/thoughts.

Clan, I can't say that what you are saying won't turn out to be true but at the moment the used module with postage is less than £100 and if that doesn't work out it will be the main dealer.

John, hopefully the donor module will work out for me.
We'll find out in the next few days.

I have bought 2 SRS modules from ebay both £30. Just match all the part numbers and get the seller to confirm part is good. My issue was SRS fault codes caused by the connector underneath front seat. Problem was these SRS faults happened when I had an inyermittent CEM fault/code. Apparently the SRS module(and perhaps other modules though I'm sure I had DEM and ABS faults at the same time and I managed to clear them) cannot be cleared of any faults they log when the CEM has a fault. BTW Lucas at Volvo Diagnostics fixed my CEM.

Just in case anyone is following this and is wondering how I'm getting on,

I have just received the new (to me, but in reality a 2nd hand) SRS module today, looks in good condition (but it's what is in the inside is the thing..) and is the same part number etc as the one in my car. So the next step is to fit it to the car. This will probably happen during the weekend too be honest so hopefully I'll be back on here saying problem sorted...

Update:

Fitted the 2nd hand SRS control module and when I had everything back together and started the car I had a new message on the drivers display "Airbag Off Service” and the Passenger Airbag Off light was on in the rear view mirror. I got my scanner (Vida/Dice) and scanned the car. Where I had only one fault with my own airbag module (SRS-E003) I now had 5 faults with the 2nd hand module, which are as follows SRS-0224, SRS-023A, SRS-0211, SRS-0219 and SRS-0239. From talking to the lad I got the 2nd hand reconditioned module from he is saying that it is in perfect working order but that it will have to be coded to the car.
I have since got in contact with a recommended automotive electronic repair & tuning center and he has told me that he does dozens of these modules fairly regularly and it is normally because of low voltage issues.
As my issue isn't related to voltage he is optimistic that we will be able to sort out the module in situ. I have the car booked into him this coming Wednesday.
I will be going to him on Wed with the center console out so that if he does need to take the module out it will be ready for him.

I'll update again when I have more news as I know that there is nothing more annoying than reading a thread about a problem and the thread starter never posts how they sorted it out in the end.

Hi, just to let you know that I went to the auto electrician this morning and after 3/4 of an hour he had it sorted.
He used his "Launch" Tablet + software to reconfigure the SRS module while it was still in the car. He did say we got lucky as most of the time he has to take the module out of the car and he has to re code the module line by line. Sometimes the module can even lock itself out and you would have to buy a new or 2nd hand unit and then code it to the car.
He did say that the module in my car is a troublesome unit and he does a lot of them especially if there were voltage issues with the car.
Anyway I'm happy that I'm not looking at the warning message on the drivers display anymore. If anyone is from around Cork and is looking for the name of the auto electrician that I used PM me.

Worked fine since.

The problem with my old srs unit was 'ecu internal fault' or some sort and could not be reset. I sent it to a company in the north who promised to reset iy and they sent me a message saying the could not clear the error and it was promptly lost in the post!

But I had taken a photo and had full detail of the old one.

I believe that some of your car options are programmed into the unit, so hopefully you are lucky and the recipient car has same options.

Good luck!
How much did he charge to sort it out?

Do you know when this SRS airbag service required appears (without the red dash light on all the time) does it mean the airbags are switched off and would not go off in an accident?

And is this message alone an MOT failure?

My understanding is that the airbag system is disabled and is indeed an mot failure these days.

I cannot rember what light was on but really immaterial. It does need sorting.

Hope this helps
